Other
positive influences include
presenting admirable virtues through the characters personalities and
traits. None of the characters in Wicked are truly
evil. They
all contain traits that make them obviously flawed yet redeemable. Some
of the positive traits that they embody are one in check with
the ways in which a Christian should act.
Glinda
and Elphaba display a great deal
of loyalty to one another. Although throughout their relationship
they experience their ups and downs, when they choose to make
different decisions with following the Wizard and take different
paths for their lives they still deeply care for and support each
other. They sing a duet called “For Good” where
they talk about
how they have changed for that better and are better people for
knowing each other.
Elphaba demonstrates forgiveness when
she forgives Glinda at the dance when Glinda feels remorseful and
changes her mind about treating Elphaba badly. Glinda was originally
mean to Elphaba and ridiculed her like the rest of her class mates
because of her skin color (she’s green).
Elphaba, for example demonstrates such
qualities as determination and courage in doing what she feels is
right. Despite being ostracized by classmates, and townspeople.
Elphaba focus her energy first, on meeting the Wizard and then when
she realizes that he is oppressing all the animals, locking them in
cages and taking away their voices, she becomes determined to free
them even if it means going against the popular opinion.
These are just a few of the positive
characteristics that the characters in Wicked
portray. These
moral attributes allow people to look past the surface story line of
corruption and wickedness to see that at the same time Wicked
is teaching people admirable qualities that they will want to attain.
